Do
you know Jesus? Do you want
eternal life?
The Bible says, “For all have
sinned and fallen short of God’s glory” (Rom. 3:23). We were in
danger of the wrath of God and eternal damnation because we would
never be able to pay our sin debt. But God loved us so much that He
sent His only Son, Jesus Christ, to earth to give His life as
payment for our sins (John 3:16). Jesus took our sins in His body,
paying the penalty for them by suffering death on the cross.
Believing and accepting what Jesus did for us is the only
way we can be forgiven of all our sins and become children of God
(John 14:6). As children of God, we are heirs to His gift of
eternal life and all His precious promises. Now, that’s good news!
However, it’s not enough to just know about this—you are now faced
with a choice. What choice will you make? Will you trust in Jesus
Christ and accept His sacrifice that will save you from having to
pay for your sins, or will you reject Him and pay the penalty
required for sin—suffering the eternal fires in hell?
If your choice
is Jesus, the process to receiving salvation (eternal life) is quite
simple. The Bible says, “If you confess with your mouth
that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God
raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved” (Romans 10:9). Now
you are ready to pray, understanding that the prayer is not what
saves you. God is looking at your heart to see if really believe in
Jesus. Ready? Let’s pray.
“Thank
you, Father, for loving me. I confess that I have sinned against you. I believe that Your Son, Jesus, died on a cross to pay for my sins and that You raised Him from the dead. I now put my faith in Jesus and humbly ask to be forgiven and saved from my sins. I confess that Jesus is Lord. Thank you, Father, for your gift of eternal life. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.”
Congratulations! Now that you are saved, you need to grow in
your relationship with God. In order to grow spiritually you
must:
-
Love God and
all people (Matthew 22:36-40).
-
Read the
Bible (1 Peter 2:2) – start with the Gospel of John, one chapter
each day.
-
Pray to God
constantly (Philippians 4:6-7) – Prayer is just talking to God.
In prayer you can thank and worship God, ask for His help, confess
your sins, and pray for others.
-
Find a good
church and attend regularly (Hebrews 10:25) – Ask God in prayer to
direct you to a church.
-
Tell others
the good news about Jesus (Mark 16:15) – Don’t worry about not
knowing enough to tell others. You know that you are saved
because of what Jesus did for you—tell that. The more you
pray, read your Bible, and attend church the more you will have to
share with others.
